The PPH Lifestyle.

LIVE AS YOUNG AS YOU FEEL.

When you step into the courtyard at The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPH), it’s like being transported to a quaint village. While cosmopolitan amenities of the city lay just outside these walls, inside, there is a peaceful, friendly feeling of comfort and community.

Just like a village square, everything is centrally located inside PPH with convenient access to a bank, a doctor’s office, four dining venues, a mini-mart and a state-of-the-art fitness center, complete with a swimming pool. There’s even a bowling alley.

Though there’s an abundance of activities, we’ve also honed the skill of simply being. Surrounding you is a tranquil floral sanctuary reminiscent of Zen gardens, meandering paths through lush greenery, towering trees and a captivating koi pond. Nestled within are inviting spots, including a gazebo and dining areas, offering a perfect balance of sunlight and shade for serene pastimes, such as reading or conversing with friends.

Our community is completely secure and staffed by skilled professionals who are dedicated to our residents’ safety.

FITNESS AS A WAY OF LIFE.

PPH has heavily invested in wellness and fitness programs to help keep mature bodies strong and agile. In fact, our state-of-the-art fitness club is on par with many retail fitness memberships and includes a pool for lap swimming and water aerobics. The pool is heated to a toasty but comfortable 84 degrees, in compliance with the Arthritis Foundation.

Wellness specialists will also educate participants about how to improve their quality of life with a mix of regular exercise and balanced nutrition. Sign up for a weekly class, such as tai chi or yoga, or speak with a staff member to help you set up a custom fitness program.

Separately, PPH also features a convenient on-site medical practice for regular checkups, specialty appointments, and blood draws. All of this adds up to healthy aging. Our PPH Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art facility, where you will find cardiovascular and resistance equipment.

SOCIAL FUN AND LIFELONG LEARNING.

In the Arts, Culture & Education (ACE) Center and Gardens, enjoy brightly lit spaces to inspire creativity, including elevated gardens plots. Find a cozy spot in the library to read a book, work on puzzles or surf the web. The PPH Greenhouse, run by residents and volunteers, offers home-grown plants for sale, with all profits donated to the PPH Benevolent Care Fund.

In addition, WiSE (Wisdom in Senior Education) classes, such as iPhone 101, How to Play Bocce and The History of Philadelphia Neighborhoods, are offered three times a year.

We are proud to be situated close to Center City Philadelphia and its rich history and cultural opportunities. Our residents enjoy frequent visits to town for plays, museum visits, restaurant openings and more. We love to host many of these types of outings and we make sure residents are safely shuttled to and from the event.
