THE PHILADELPHIA PROTESTANT HOME CELEBRATES DIVERSE & UNITED FOUNDERS’ DAY

Celebrating the mission, vision, and commitment to Family

Recognizing long-term Residents and Honoring  100-plus-year-old Residents and Residents-of-the Year for Independent Living, Personal Care, and Skilled Nursingdiverseunited

(Philadelphia, PA – November 4, 2016) – The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPh) announced today that on Tuesday, November 15, in PPh Social Hall, it is gathering for its Founders’ Day and Diverse & United Diversity celebration, focusing on affirming the PPh mission and continuing its devotion to Family. The PPh Board, administration, staff and residents as part of its tradition on Founders’ Day, will recognize long-term residents who have lived at the senior living community for 20+ years. PPh also will honor 11 residents who are 100-years-old or older, along with announcing Residents-of-the-Year distinctions for Independent Living, Personal Care and Pathways Skilled Nursing.

“Our mission at PPh is guided by Christian values. We provide a caring senior community that affords our residents the opportunity for their highest possible quality of life,” said Anthony Manzo, President and CEO of PPh. “We are who we are, and we do what we do truly for the 600 seniors who are our Family. Last year at this time, we were culminating a year-long celebration of our 125th Anniversary with our Treasured Past, Triumphant Future theme. This year, we are celebrating a very special part our PPh community – Workplace Diversity – with a message about a Diverse and United Family,” he said.

PPh traces its origin back to a conference of German Protestant ministers of Philadelphia in 1889 in a YMCA hall. A group of visionary leaders considered at the conference how to organize a home for the elderly and needy. Today, PPh is home to residents in independent living, personal care, and skilled nursing, as well as provides rehabilitation and care for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss. The Diverse & United portion of PPh’s celebration will feature themed posters and table displays from PPh staff and residents. Items that may  be on display include: artifacts, photos, flags, toys, coins, clothes, jewelry, snacks & treats and items held over from PPh’s origins as The Philadelphia German Protestant Home for the Aged including its original charter.

Personality traits of a non-profit organization – leadership, volunteerism, diversity and philanthropy – hold the key to success and sustainability in achieving our mission to be here not just for today, but to be around to fulfill our promise and deliver our mission for future generations to come,” said Richard Soltan, ESQ, Chairman of PPh Board of Directors. “May we always be a beacon of hope for the hopeless and a home for seniors who need a place to call home, and a Family to each other,” he said.

In addition PPh is expected to receive a $10,000 donation from the PPh Auxiliary, which will be dedicated to Benevolent Care to help ensure that PPh residents will never have to worry about their need for continuing care at PPh if they find that they have exhausted their financial resources.

The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPh), founded in 1889 and incorporated in 1890, is a non-profit senior living community in Northeast Philadelphia, licensed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) and certified by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).   Pathways Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best nursing homes in the country and continues to receive a five-star rating from CMS.  PPh is dedicated to service, excellence and the highest quality of senior living. PPh fosters a caring environment, promotes independence, advances individual dignity and respect, and encourages a sense of family.  PPh provides lifelong access to a full continuum of services to some 600 residents, including Independent Living, Personal Care, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, and care for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss.
