PPH Celebrates 12th Annual Gala for Benevolent Care October 20!
The Enchanted Garden… Hope Grows Here!
The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPH) celebrates its 12th Annual Gala for Benevolent Care, “The Enchanted Garden…Hope Grows Here!” presented by Contract Pharmacy Services (CPS), on Friday, October 20, at the Southampton Room, 2980 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, 19154. The evening begins with a welcome reception and silent auction at 6:30 p.m. followed by a speaker program at 8 p.m. featuring honorary guests, PPH Personal Care resident and Benevolent Care beneficiary Norma Mueller and her family. The celebration continues with a formal dinner and entertainment including an enchanted secret garden of hope video presentation, a live band performance by Legacy, dancing, photo booth, raffle drawing, door prizes and 50-50 chances with all proceeds benefitting PPH Benevolent Care.
The gala is the major fundraising event for PPH Benevolent Care, which supports senior residents in Personal Care and Independent Living who have outlived their financial resources and no longer can afford the cost of their care. An increasing number of seniors are living longer and healthcare costs continue to increase. PPH provides more than $615,000 a year in Benevolent Care, and costs are projected to continue to increase at 8-10% per year.
“The Enchanted Garden is a mystical place where hope grows in the hearts of people who imagine a better place to be. And that place is the Philadelphia Protestant Home, where for more than 127 years, seniors have had a place to call home even as they age, even as they can no longer afford the cost of their care,” said PPH Gala Honorary Committee Chair W. Russell Koerwer. “Through our enduring mission of Benevolent Care, PPH gives our more than 600 senior residents and their families peace-of-mind security and reassuring hope for a full life of dignity and respect,” said Mr. Koerwer.
The speaker program includes: PPH President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Manzo, Welcome Remarks; PPH Chair of the Board of Directors Richard Soltan, Esq., Sponsorship Recognition and Challenge to Sustain Mission; and Gala Honorary Committee Chair W. Russel Koerwer, PPH Hope Grows Here; with a Blessing by The Rev. Rodney Kopp, Pastor (retired) St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and The Rev. William Mueller, Pastor St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, and son of the Guest of Honor, who is a longtime PPH resident and Benevolent Care recipient, Norma Mueller. The keynote remarks and a videotaped testimonial on PPH Benevolent Care are provided by Neshaminy High School Vice Principal Robert Mueller, also son of Norma Mueller. The Master of Ceremonies is PPH Vice President of Development, Marketing and Community Relations Patrick Donohue.
The Gala Honorary Committee is chaired by W. Russell Koerwer, former Chair PPH Board of Directors, former President Chelten Hills Savings Bank and former President Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. The committee is comprised of volunteers Barbara R. Beckman, Esq., former Chair PPH Board of Directors, PPH Fiscal Oversight Committee, and Ballard Spahr LLP; Arthur J.
