Celebrating PPh’s 10th Annual Bergdoll Society Dinner

(March 23, 2016, PHILADELPHIA) The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPh) announced today that it is hosting its 10th annual Bergdoll Society Dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in the PPh Social Hall. This year’s event will be particularly special as PPh introduces a new award, the PPh Community Leadership and Service Award, which will be presented to the Lawncrest Community Association. In addition to the new award, PPh will be honoring Mr. W. Russell Koerwer, former Chair of the PPh Board of Directors, with the Bergdoll Society Award for his service and commitment to PPh over many years.
Speakers will include PPh President & CEO Anthony L. Manzo; PPh Vice President of Marketing, Development and Community Relations Patrick Donohue; PPh Board of Directors Chair Richard Soltan, Esq.; and PPh Board of Directors Fund Development & Marketing Committee Chair Kathleen Wersinger.
PPh established The Bergdoll Society in 2005 to recognize individuals who have given $500 or more in the previous calendar year, as well as donors who have consistently contributed to PPh for 10 or more consecutive years. The Bergdoll Society is named for Mrs. Elizabeth Bergdoll who in 1898 bequeathed $15,000 for a parcel of land, which went on to become the present location of the Home.
The PPh Community Leadership and Service Award was created in 2016 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Bergdoll Society and to honor a partner in the community for shared values, vision and leadership, and giving tirelessly of themselves to serve the needs of others.
“The Lawncrest Community Association has demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life in the Lawncrest community. PPh is proud to bring LCA this much-deserved recognition for being a steady presence and pillar of the community,” said Richard Soltan, Esq., PPh Board of Directors Chair. “The Lawncrest Community Association is one of the more active community associations in the city of Philadelphia and their work here in the neighborhood deserves to be recognized. PPh is proud to partner with LCA to serve the community whenever possible,” Soltan said.
Mr. W. Russell Koerwer will be the recipient of the Bergdoll Society Award for his steadfast service and commitment to PPh. As former Chair of the PPh Board of Directors, Mr. Koerwer time and again has demonstrated his value in furthering the mission and ideals of PPh.
“The Koerwer family name is associated with the very fabric of the PPh community, including stained glass windows in the Chapel and the beautiful outdoor gazebo, which will remain a part of our grounds and will be enhanced with the forthcoming expansion that includes benefits for our residents in the arts, education, environment and wellness,” said Kathleen Wersinger, PPh Board of Directors Fund Development & Marketing Committee Chair.
“Since 1994, Russ himself has been a loyal donor and has made personal contributions to PPh. Over these many years, Russ has contributed nearly $25,000 to the unrestricted operational budget and the Benevolent Care Fund. We are grateful to consider him part of the PPh family,” Wersinger said.
