PPH Strengthens Connections Through Campus-Wide Wi-Fi Campaign

Posted on: Jun 02, 2021

In 2020, due to the coronavirus, we knew we would not be able to hold our traditional in-person gala for PPH Benevolent Care. The gala accounts for a large portion of fundraising income each year and has provided an opportunity for our community partners, vendors and businesses to show their support of the PPH mission. The 2019 PPH Gala raised the most-ever in its 13 years — totaling just over $100,000. Our fundraising goal for the Strengthening Connections Campaign for Campus-Wide Wi-Fi was $200,000.We kicked off the campaign in spring of 2020, and our fundraising goal for the year was met by the end of the year. We have now raised over $250,000! The cost of the actual project is over $800,000.

Exciting progress on Wi-Fi improvements

PPH has made significant progress with the project. BoxTechs, which is also our Premier Sponsor, has been leading the charge to implement this critical infrastructure.

The work required to install high-speed, reliable and secure wireless internet is complete throughout the Pathways Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The Personal Care areas of the campus are nearing completion. The project will then move to our Independent Living buildings in June. The totality of the project is expected to be completed by fall 2021.

The many benefits of campus-wide Wi-Fi

Campus-wide wireless internet provides countless benefits to further advance the PPH mission. Skilled nursing residents can connect virtually with friends directly from their room or mobile device and engage in online activities. Reducing feelings of social isolation — especially during the COVID pandemic — is critical to our residents’ overall health and well-being.

Telehealth capability will help reduce hospital admissions and increase preventative health with services like medication management. Residents, especially those who are less mobile, will have access to virtual classes for lifelong learning programs, activities and fitness classes that are all done in the comfort of their own apartment.

Lifestyle preferences — from online banking and shopping to streaming video, the ability to order meals and easily coordinate service requests online — will further support a worry-free lifestyle.

Wi-Fi will offer increased methods of communicating news, events, accessing activity schedules and hearing important announcements.

Wi-Fi throughout the campus will enable PPH to integrate and innovative many of its systems that will help staff more efficiently perform their jobs, while also improving resident health and safety. The coronavirus pandemic has further highlighted the importance of infrastructure. In a rapidly evolving digital age, wireless internet connectivity is the foundation of campus life.

Gratitude for support from our donors

We are deeply grateful for the support from our generous donors. A special thank-you to our campaign sponsors, including our Premier Sponsor, BoxTechs, and The Arcadia Foundation, which granted $81,500 in funds to PPH. To view a complete list of campaign sponsors, click here.

We are looking forward to thanking our supporters at the campaign sponsor and donor reception. After being postponed due to the pandemic, this event will be held Thursday, September 23, at 6 p.m. in the PPH ACE Center Courtyard & Gardens.

Can people still donate?

Yes. While our Strengthening Connections Campaign has culminated, our needs are greater than ever before. From updating the Personal Care and Skilled Nursing call systems, to a lighting project in all three Independent Living buildings using modern energy-efficient lighting, to the replacement of five elevator systems, the importance of updating our solid systems and infrastructure continues.

What Residents Say

"In my nine years at PPH, I’ve grown to like it very much. At first, I felt like a stranger and then as I began to talk to people, we increasingly became good friends. A way to meet people is to join clubs. I’m now part of the PPH Auxiliary. I love helping with their flea markets because you never know what you can find. Recently, I’ve joined an evening quilting class. I love that I can continue to enjoy my life outside of PPH while experiencing the offers here.…especially the pool! Everything is just so convenient.

– Lucille Hite, Independent Living resident

What Families Say

"My mom is sooo happy at PPH, I can’t even describe it in strong enough words. She’s met so many new friends and these ladies do EVERYTHING together! She sees Dad every day in Pathways, but can have her life too. She’s gone to so many activities and I think I’ve already been to Scoops with her at least 15 times. She loves the dining room and Bistro too. My sister, Ilene, and I are so delighted that Mom is happy.......Wow, it feels like Mom’s been there about 2 years—but it’s only 2 months!! That’s how comfortable and natural it feels for her – and for all of us.
