Important Community Qualities You Won’t Be Able to See on a Tour

So, you’ve arrived at a senior living community for a tour. The grounds look gorgeous, the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and your friendly guide is extolling the virtues of the community. You may be tempted to move in right away, based on what you see. Yes, the feel of a community is important, and you shouldn’t discount your gut impressions, but there are factors you need to dig into more deeply that you won’t be able to see on a tour. Here are a few things to consider:

  1. Resident impressions: Take advantage of the opportunity to come for a meal or an event when our community is open again for visits where you can ask questions of residents and get their unbiased opinions of the community. After all, they know it better than anyone.
  2. Continuum of care: Many communities claim to offer higher levels of care — but do your research. Should your needs for care grow, you may have to move to another location or pay much higher rates for services. At PPH, we are a fee-for-service community that offers independent living, personal care and skilled nursing, all on one campus. Because we provide benevolent care and accept Medicaid in our skilled nursing neighborhood, you’ll enjoy lifetime care at a reasonable cost. Here on our beautiful campus, you’ll find everything you need to make your next years your best years.
  3. Financial security: At some for-profit communities, you will be asked to leave, should you run out of funds. However, at PPH, our benevolent care program gives you the security of knowing that, should you outlive your financial resources through no fault of your own, you can continue receiving the care you require.
  4. Location: While you’re touring the community, you need to think about what’s convenient to its campus. How close is it to the places you want to go? Since PPH is located in the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia, we are ideally situated to access the best that our region has to offer. In minutes, you can be enjoying the arts, culture and restaurants of Center City or the pastoral beauty of Bucks and Montgomery counties. With convenient access to Route 1, Interstate 95, SEPTA bus service and regional rail, it’s a quick trip to anywhere your heart desires.
  5. Mission: Beyond the superficial appearance of the community, what values back it up? At PPH, our mission is: “to provide a caring senior living community that affords our residents the opportunity to achieve their highest-possible quality of life.”
  6. Longevity: Some of the keys to a positive living experience are the people who work at a community. At PPH, we are blessed with a multitude of caregivers, support staff, administrative personnel and volunteers who have happily worked here for two, three, four decades and more.
